Mapping to Custom Domain FAQs
Updated over a week ago

Find below frequently asked questions about mapping a custom domain to Hashnode:

How long does it take for the DNS to propagate?

Domain propagation (the process whereby nameservers update across the internet to reflect a change in a domain's DNS record) takes 0 - 48 hours to start working in all locations across the internet.

How will I know when my domain has been mapped successfully?

You can use any DNS Propagation Checker like this to check the current state of your DNS propagation.

Does Hashnode handle the SSL certificates?

Once your domain propagates, we'll automatically provision an SSL certificate for you when you visit your blog for the first time. If you are using something like Cloudflare, please bypass it for this domain.

If I add a custom domain, will my previous hashnode subdomain redirect to that domain?

Yes, it will redirect. If you are currently using the Hashnode subdomain i.e https://unclebigbay.hashnode.dev/how-to-get-tomorrows-date-in-javascript
โ€‹
The subdomain will redirect to your custom domain like this: https://unclebigbay.com/how-to-get-tomorrows-date-in-javascript

I use Freenom as my DNS provider and while adding a record it says wildcards are not supported, how do I fix it?

You can leave the name field blank if you want to assign a DNS record (like A record) to your entire domain.
